I am looking for a cheap display I could use with my camera while filming. I've seen the Marshall, but 1200$ is definitely too much for my budget so I'd like to know if there are cheaper alternatives.

Also, I have a Macbook and was wondering if there could be any way to watch the video in realtime on it and use that laptop as my external screen?

Hey, if you're looking for a external monitor...I've been checking out two of them.

Totevision monitor - 7" HD 1080p $835 from there website.

http://www.totevision.com/Second/ToteVision%20-%20HD%20MONITORS.htm

but I found the same one cheaper at B&H $628 -

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/485452-REG/Tote_Vision_LCD_703HD_LCD_703_7_LCD_Field.html

or ikan V8000HD 8" TFT LCD Monitor $795

Both monitors will need re-chargeable batteries. Tote is extra $81 and for Ikan: the IBS750 Sony Compatible Battery slot in the back. $44.95

I like the Tote better because of the DVI and Component aspect...so you can use the HDMI to DVI or the component input but the ikan may be able to flip the image so that would be a bonus. I'm not sure since they don't say in their detail information section. Oher ikan monitors do the flip. I would presume this would too…but I just don't know. Anyways, you could always just flip the monitor (Totevision) upside down…not a problem.

Good luck on your findings. I hope this helps out.

If you don't want to use the LCD of your HV-20 and want to invest to an external LCD monitor, I think that a 800x480 version is the minimum.

I have successfully hooked my HV20 using HDMI cable through HDMI --> DVI adapter to a 17" NEC computer monitor. The specs came out to be
1280 x 7xx. I am thinking of a widescreen monitor with DVI that has higher resolution, but this might be an alternative to the Macbook.

I still can't believe not one of the "bigtime pro field monitor" companies is offering a battery-powered LCD with more than 480 lines!

If that situation doesn't change, I may have to buy one of Bruce Allen's (http://www.boacinema.com/projects/lcd_monitor/) homebuilt ones ...

Nice, I don't like to spent too much money on the HV20, so my link is sufficient for me. But I will keep this guy in mind - maybe later if I use a better camera. Like a RED. :)
