I thought I read something about this here, but can't find the link anymore.

Anyway, here's my question...

What's the differance between 24P and 25P recording mode???

I thought it was something about the NTSC and PAL versions of the HV20?
I have the PAL (Dutch) version and have a 25P recording mode.

Also, is it 'enough' to just record in 25P and than capture/edit the footage, or do I have to use special settings in my editing software?
I use Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate for capturing/editing.

My thought is that 25P is in progressive mode, and 'normal' HDV setting is in interlaced mode... Am I right here?

Also, what's the best format to use on internet, like YouTube?

Thanks for all the information!

Stef.

1 fps! :hv20-smilie77:

Exactly; 24p = NTSC version, 25p = PAL version

Yes, that's all you need to do; it's MUCH simpler in the PAL version; just shoot 25p and capture to your NLE.

You are right.

There's no BEST format, as YouTube sucks as far as quality is concerned. You can use any setting you want really.

Ok, thanks a lot!:hv20-smilie77::hv20-smilie77:

I'm still experiment with all the different settings on the HV20.
For now, my best result for YouTube is to save a .wmv file wich delivers the best result and also the smallest file size.
(For example, saving in .avi will get poor 'blocking' quality with a 95MB file size, while the same project saved in .wmv file get much better, smoother picture with only 36MB filesize...)

I only have to learn more / do more with the 25P recording mode and Cine mode. But I'm glad to bought the HV20! It's such a great cam with so many possibilities...

AVI (and WMV, too, I guess) is container formats, so "saving in AVI" doesn't mean anything in the context of your message.

Sorry for asking, but what do you mean with container format???
My backgroup is pretty good PC related but Don't exactly know the differance between specific file formats as mentioned before, and never heard or red the term container format...

Container formats (of which is AVI is an example) are used in order to package multiple streams of A/V data into single resulting stream. They do not define how are the video and audio streams encoded. Therefore you can have multitude of video and audio formats, but they all end up in an AVI file.

actually, THIS is the best quality, (actually HD) but youtube limits the bandwidth so it stops at 55seconds. check it out. its a true HD upload, you can watch it full screen!

Well, I must say I'm quite impressed by the 'youtube' quality of the footage!:hv20-smilie77:

I'm wondering what they have done to achieve this kind of quality on YouTube.
Also, like to know the filesize for the amount of film used...

So from what I understand, you don't need to convert your footage in your NLE when using PAL 25P, because there is no pull-down or interlacing to deal with. Does that mean that the footage is recorded on tape on a 25P field?(unlike the 60i field on the NTSC cameras?)

If this is true, then the question is can you edit in Final Cut Express 3.5 using 25P? or would that just leave it interlaced, as happens when using NTSC?

If that's true, then you guys are lucky in PAL land.
