LOL,

I've often wondered how many HV20s get purchased as HDV "feeder decks" since Sony persists in thinking that a small LCD and the same light-duty tape drive they use in their camcorders in a mostly-empty box is worth more than the same components combined with optics, microphone, etc. in a palm-sized package ...

But of course! A lot of what Sony honchos do makes little sense! The original logic with the Mini DV "Watchman" was that it made a great field deck and theoretically tool a lot of load of the (then) expensive camera tape drives. So a $1500 deck made sense against the added wear and inconvenience of using a $4500 XL1 or whatever as a host. Today of course, a Palmcorder as deck is the sensible solution:hv20-smilie03: So this is offered to those that are still diehard SDV editors that need a fulltime deck for dumping into NLE
