It seems like all the time we get people wondering how to get that "pro" look for your hv20. I thought it would be cool if we could get a list together of items that give you that pro look for your camera. This way also we can direct people to this thread if they have the question.

Kyleman, is that a ProAm crane? It looks just like the one I have. Your 35mm setup looks nice and compact. Is that just super short cavision rails and a shoulder support? I recently got the indiRAILSpro20sm and the 24" rails seem a little long with the hv20.

Hi Dust'n the Callipygous. Yes it is a ProAm 8 crane found Here (http://www.proamcranes.com/shop/product.php?productid=16133&cat=249&page=1).

Just received my HV30 (someone please teach me the secret handshake) and have yet to take it out and test anything -- haven't even put a tape in it, busy. The step up rings I ordered just arrived so I stuck on some of the accessories I have from other cameras and took snaps for a friend and thought I'd post them here as well. I haven't had a chance to test any of these, will today or tomorrow though. Hoping the Sony WA works well, worked on my JVC HDV so it should. Plan to get a LCD shade soon, my Hoodman H400 is a bit big. :hv20-smilie03:
Microphone: Audio Technica ATR55
Bracket (shoe on top and side, mic is ~3" above camera): This is close enough (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/131401-REG/General_Brand__Right_Angle_Bracket_with.html)

Mine won't get too dressed/pimped as I have no need for a 35mm adapter, etc. However, my favorite setup so far is below. Found it in a thread here but can't find the link to it (if it's yours, PM me). I just love the way it looks:

I would give an award to the looks of the setup below. Would like to hear about the eyepiece addon. I think it would be an absolute necessity with that shoulder mount rig, but I wonder if it has a high enough resolution for the dof adaptor focusing. What the heck is it. If it just plugs into the A/V connector than it would be low resolution.

It looks like it was from a Canon XL1s or similar. I have no idea, it's from another customizing thread that I haven't found yet.

I just use my camera for the family but it is good to know that people think enough of it to use it as a base for all this other stuff. It still amazes me how people that have a need for all this stuff wouldn't use like a XLH1 or something. Is the HV20/30 really that good?

I wondered that, too, when I started seeing some of the more elaborate and expensive setups. Some of them cost as much as and more than say a Canon XH-A1. Then someone explained that even if they'd bought a XH-A1 they'd need to add most of the extras to it to get the functionality they wanted -- I've seen DOF adapters on Sony XDCAM EX1's for example. The HV20/HV30 gives you a more affordable starting point.
It comes down to what do you want to do. The HV20/HV30's image quality is way up there, used as a B-roll with a lot of more expensive cameras. Using one as an "engine" allows you to customize it to do exactly what you want with the engine part being relatively inexpensive compared to pro gear. If the camera malfunctions or you need a backup, another HV20/HV30 is a lot more doable than say a second XDCAM ($6,000).
You can even swap in a completely different camera later as advancements occur as the main rig is already setup waiting for a new engine...or not.

Thanks, I try to keep my rig not looking messy by keeping everything black (for the most part).
Yes, I consider the results AMAZING! Even with the mic mounted on the camera I hear no tape noise from it. It was so clear that when I was editing a scene one time and no one was talking I thought the audio was muted until the actor started talking.

Wow, I totally agree! Flycam, did you build that mount yourself? I've been looking for a mount to move my preamp and wireless receiver to the back of my HV20, because I need to shift the center of gravity back significantly. This looks like it'd do a great job of doing that!

partially, the hot shoe is a Beyerdynamic Hotshoe adaptor, mounted to a K&M Stereo Mic bracket, of which I sawed off one end which was too long, there I attached the battery Pack using a 90degree angle and a maschine screw.

The preamp is the JuicedLink CX231; love it. The wireless system is the Sennheiser eW100 g2 Evolution; like it.
I'm really impressed with how you left the camera control buttons accessible and still mounted the components close to the camera itself. Thanks for the parts list. Hopefully it'll mold my thinking to put something suited to my needs together.
I haven't seen a single bracket like yours. Everything mounts stuff to the side or the bottom or the top.

Kyle,
What's up? Did you ever pick up that RODE NTGG-2 kit? If so did you go to this site to pick it up? http://www.dvcreators.net/rode-ntg-2/
2 questions for you:
1. How do you like the kit?
2. What is your opinion of that store? Relialble or Shady?
Thanks, man!

Hey treyvollmer,
Yes, I did pick it up after finally got the money to buy it haha. But I don't regret buying it one bit, it's a great kit that will get you started to having great audio. If you plan on using it directly with your camcorder I would also recommend picking up a Juicedlink, another great product with great customer service, too. They were reliable for me, I got everything with no problems so I'm happy. Hope this helps!

Great!
Are you saying yes that you got it from this website

Or are you only saying that you got it?
Also, did it come with a windsock?
Thanks,
Trey

Yes I bought it from DVCreators. It comes with the standard "RODE" wind muff and the K-Tek one pictured. The K-Tek works really well.

I'm also looking into getting the RODE NTG 3 instead of the 2. Do you think it's worth the price difference?

I'm not sure, but I think I looked it up a while back, if I remember right the NTG 3 is more of a dialogue mic, while the NTG 2 is more of an all around mic. For the price I would stick with the NTG 2.

Hmmm...that's interesting. Yeah, I'm not sure of what the differences are either. What are you using to record ambient sound? NTG 2, or something else?

It depends sometimes. I have a Zoom H2 as well (if you ever get the extra cash to buy one, trust me its worth it), and I will use that for ambient, and my NTG 2 for dialogue. Or, a mixture of both. It just depends what the shot is really.
