Stripe on Capture - Big Problem?

Whenever I capture footage from my HV20 now I get a thing bar of vertical stripes on the farthest left side of the screen. At first I thought this was just on re-used tapes that were wearing down. Not that I ever use any tape more than once, but I've had experience with cheap tapes creating artifacts like this before. However, I just got a new pack of JVC mini-DVs and I'm having the same problem. These stripes are green and purple, totaling about two centimeters of the screen usually and only visible over lighter backgrounds.

Does this sound like a playhead problem? Would a cleaning tape work? Where can I find one?

Do these stripes appear on your footage when you look at it on your computer? If so, maybe it's just a problem with the LCD screen.

Yes. In fact, only during/after capture or playback, not during recording.
