Hi! I'm picking up my HV20 tomorrow (went with the good deal at CircuitCity and the AAA coupon that people mentioned!) and, well, most of today I've been wandering around all sorts of threads looking at lens stuff and then audio equipment...

Anyway! To get where I was going, with all this wandering, I'm left with links that I've saved, but I've forgotten some of what I've read and was wondering if I could get some help. I'd really like to get a UV filter for my HV20, so at the very least I have protection on the camera lens, along with providing you know, some decent UV protection.

Strumming around on BHPhotoVideo I saw a bunch of UV protection lens with before and after photos to give you an idea of how the lens would look, except the photos, I noticed, were simulated. One that looked alright was the Tiffen UV filter (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/72710-REG/Tiffen_43UVP_43mm_UV_Protector_Glass.html), but at $9.63, I'm not sure whether it'll actually be good, so I was wondering what people thought. I don't really have a whole lot of money to spend, but I'd still like to get something decent.

And as someone pointed out, with a UV lens on the camera, I'll probably need a lens caps, so if someone could recommend one of those too, I'd be much obliged! Sorry, I know this has been covered before, but I just remember so many different brands being mentioned, I can't remember what the final verdict ended up being. ^_^;

Cheap UV filters cause reflections/flaring which IMO causes more problems than the UV supposedly solves. A lens hood without the UV filter will give you some "protection" while shooting (what is it we are protecting from anyway?) Bottom line is I don't use UV filters at all.

Personally I got a ProMaster UV filter...really loving it...unless you rotate it right under a light I wasn't even sure that there was a piece of glass in it for like 5 minutes :P

As for lens caps, I just ordered a 5 dollar one off amazon with 2 clasps to lock it into place on the filter...should work fine as long as it's the right size cap.
