There are so many different intermediary codecs out there and I keep hearing about Cineform HD being the best. Is this true? And is this codec compatible with both Vegas and Premier?

General rule is if you use Premiere, then use Aspect HD. For Vegas, use Neo HD (full 1920x1080, 10bit) or Neo HDV (1440x1080, 8bit). HDV is about half the price, but it more than meets my needs.

Thanks for the info. I looked into it and my jaw dropped when I saw the price. You know of any free lossless codecs that work well?

I don't know of any off hand, just google it. Though if you're using Premiere 1.5.1 or a later version of Vegas, they come with a basic codec built-in. Also, Cineform has given members of this forum a pretty generous discount (http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?t=3992) on their various products.

i just got cineform, it's expensive but well worth it, when capturing it will perform the pulldown for you and the footage looks good, no more extra work with removing pulldown, and the codec allows working with hd to playback smooth without having to make proxy files or render, (only if you add color correction or something do you have to render for smooth playback)
I use it with premiere cs3

I hate spending money (I dont have much of it) but CineForm is the best add on I have ever invested in.
It solved so many problems i was having about a year ago snd it contunues to be a friend.
I think there are some freebies out there
Logarith is one and another is quite cheap, and if i remember rightly carries a guys name (Faulty memory recall.. I apologise)

Not to start a platform war - just a point of reference that on Macs there is "Apple Pro Rez", a free component of Quicktime that is amazing. I'm not sure if they've ported it over to the Windows version yet.

Sometimes PP CS3 (with the CineForm plug in) Takes me all through the capture process, then tells me that it captured no frames! Most of the time it works ok but then it throws this tantrum.
I have a checklist that i go through, but yesterday I could not get it to capture.
Then i discovered HD Link.exe in the CineForm package and used that; and everything went perfectly.
Are there any disadvantages to using this programme to capture?
