New external HDD setup queries

I'm on the final countdown to a faster machine ready for video capture and editing. A 350G external hard drive is being firewired rather than the tower itself,( did I get this right? ). I don't have a fire wire port at present. Do I install my capture/editing software onto the new hard drive and keep everything HV20 separate from my (measly) internal one ?This is likely another basic question that everyone knows but I can't say Ive specifically noticed in posts now its crunch time.:)

I posted this before. The enclosure connected to your PC internal SATA port. There is no layer of data conversion. SATA is hot swappable, so you have unlimited storage to your system once you plug in any SATA HD.

Oh yes I did see that thanks Taky but back then it wasn't applicable so I'd forgotten about it. I'm not sure I'm going to crawl under my desk too much, itll be interesting to see what the tech comes up with though, I hadn't thought that far ahead ie accessability
