Im working on vegas 7 if that is any importance, and my final goal is to get my 24p footage onto dvd.

Now I think I got it figured out or maybe im totaly off..

Ok, so I bring the 24p into vegas (which is set to the 23.97fps template) and I want to save it to .avi before final product. Do I save it as "frame rate-23.976 2-3 pulldown, then when im ready to put all finished pieces together I reimport all those files that were saved as avi(2-3 pulldown) back into vegas and save final as --mpeg 2? progressive scan-- 23.976 fps..and my dvd player will recognize the 2-3 pulldown.

Is this the right way? I dont understand what all the other steps i hear is all about.

I hope i dont sound to confusing., if you need any indepth detail ill tell you.

your footage isn't 23.976 out of the tape. why do you set the project as 23.976?

you know I just checked and your right its not 23.976,... I dont know why I though this..?

Ok now I guess I see why you have to do all those steps, like HDVsplit. right?

Matthew - you can't use any of the 23.97/24 fps settings in Vegas with any HDV 24p footage you've captured using Vegas because Vegas cannot do pulldown removal on those files. You must use 29.97 fps settings for renders/timeline properties. BUT all is not lost: editing 24p HV20 footage on a 29.97 timeline and rendering to MPEG-2 DVDA widescreen non-24p template produces fine looking SD DVD's from your 24p HDV footage.

If you want to use 23.97 fps templates/timelines in Vegas you must remove pulldown first using another application. Review this forum for those applications.
