Are there any editing choices that are more software driven than hardware driven. My system I guess is below average to average so I'm thinking that a software driven package might be better. Any suggestions would be appreciated
Operating System : Windows XP Media Center SP2
Motherboard : ASUS A8N-BR
Processor : AMDdualcore 64x2 3800+2.0 GHZ
Memory/RAM : 960MB of RAM
Video Card : NVIDIA GE Force 6150LE
Sound Card : Realtek ALC 888 chipset
Hard Drive : 200GB SATA 7,200 RPM's
By the way this forum is top notch in every category

Try downloading a test version of Pinnacle Studio, see if it does what you want. - at least the trial version is free!
I use Pinnacle Studio 11 and I like it. Judging from other contributors the range of editing software used by members is large. I believe that there are other trial packages out there.

You might want to invest a 500GB SATA HD.. They runs around $100. Use it as a dedicated video drive. 200GB just won't last much longer espeicall that's your boot drive too.
The next thing will be add another 1GB of RAM.
Software-wise, I use Premiere Pro. Vegas and Premiere Element are other popular choices. If you a doing a lot of HDV editing, investing Cineform AspectHD or NeoHD will be useful.

A lot of us like Sony Vegas as it relies on the CPU rather than the GPU when applying effects - for some effects, other NLEs require a powerful graphics card.
But the choice is wide. Even Nero includes a basic NLE.
