View Full Version : Is HDVSplit better than Vegas or Video Stio, etc...

Now that I 've started to work with Vegas Studio 8 Platinum (demo) I find myself committed. It's a good, stable program, so far. Now my question is this:

Is there any quality lost by using Vegas or Ulead transfer utilities vs HDVSplit for instance. I know there have been extensive 24p discussions on this matter, but what about all the other modes ?

I don’t know how it is with Vegas Movie Studio, but there is a bug in Vegas 7 which causes it to split HDV clips incorrectly. This is, to say the least, a right royal pain in the butt.

With HDVSplit, there is no such problem. And nor is there any loss of quality. The only gripe I have about HDVSplit is that if I set it to display a preview, it crashes (but as long as I ignore the error, it continues to capture).

Thanks Worley.

I downloaded and installed DVDSplit. But now it won't recognize my HV20. I know the computer does and Vegas does. Is there an additional setup I need to do somewhere else ?

Disconnect the HV20 from the PC, then start HDVSplit, and finally reconnect the camera. That's what works for me.

Took a while but I finally figured out I had left the cam in DV locked position from showing a DV tape on my TV the other night. I switched it to Auto and voilà, it works.

Thank you for your help Worley.

Worley_________ are you referring to manual splits or auto scene splits. I rarely do a manual split and I never use auto scene splits. As a matter of fact, I normally select all scenes and do a combine before I even start to edit any of my videos. I'm probably pretty dumb about the way I do things but you know how habits creep in and play a big part in ones workflow processes. I don't presently use Vegas 7 but I am going to try it out and I don't need to run into a bug and think that that's the way it suppose to operate.

It's the auto-split that's broken. I prefer to capture with HDVSplit, so it's not a great problem, but it's better to be aware of it...
