View Full Version : why not just put the 24p flags back in the .m2t file?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but wouldn't it be a lot easier to just insert the 24p cadence flags back into the .m2t files from the HV20? Rather than rendering to different codecs and re-rendering back, it would make sense to leave the HDV stream quality intact. If it is possible to detect the proper cadence by visual analysis (like the CineFrom tools and others seem to do) then couldn't these markers be put pack in a copy of .m2t without the need for any rendering to different codec?

This would require some knowledge of the HDV file specifiaction, but given the complexity of other solutions, this method appears straightforward. No dependence on specific NLEs (other than it would need to understand 24p flags) or add-ons, no loss of quality, and no huge render files.

Am I missing something?

Sounds like a great idea to me.

I'm just not aware of a tool that can do this as of yet.
