View Full Version : Importing HD footage into iMovie HD from HV20. Help.

My HV20 seems to not want to import HD footage into iMovie HD correctly. It will only do so if the project is DV or DV Widescreen (downgraded) and if attempted on one of the HD projects, it will import at 4:3, and then letterbox automatically after (again, downgraded).
Anyone know how I can fix this? My Playback STD is on HD and I've tried a few other options such as "TV Type" (16:9 or 4:3). I use MiniDV tapes and not HDV tapes but I thought that shouldn't matter.
(Sorry if this is in the wrong category. I figured the Mac forum was more for non-HV20 Mac-related things.)

my very first try did the same thing, my canon hv 30 recorded in cinemode 30p.
What I did is:
1. I closed the imovie application, deleted the file, empty the trash.
2. rewound the camcorder, played some footage, then rewound again
3. open imovie application, create new, set to HDV 1080i, click create
4. the screen should now be in HD and blue in color. If not, repeat 1 and 3
5. just click import it should work.
I have Mac OS X 10.4.11, 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

I'm sorry that I am an older computer-ILLITERATE user and I have a problem. Please go easy on me if I haven't done this the right way.
I spent 1K on a Canon HG10 AVCHD High Definition HDD Camcorder and had no idea that I'd have such a problem trying to find software that would capture, edit, and output the video. I haven't found it yet. I'm a novice about to hang out this camcorder to dry. Is there a software that exist that recognizes and convert .m2ts formats so that I can make a simple DVD? Also, is it possible to play the video on a TV and record the DVD from the TV? I'm willing to try just about anything.

and the magic word VOLTAIC. It's sold for $30, suppose to convert AVCHD to HDV format
