View Full Version : Lens Hoods/Matte Boxes for the Canon WD-H43?
Aside from the Matteblox..... What lens hoods or "clip on" style matte boxes will fit on the Canon WD-H43?

For cheapness I bought a 77mm rubber pop hood and trimmed it so it didnt show in any shots.

Ah, yes, I saw your post about that. Did you trim it with scissors or what? :hv20-smilie87:
Did it fit snuggly on the WD-H43?

Where did you buy it from? How does it attach to the lens?
BTW, are there screw-on filters that will fit the WD-H43?

Yup, new sharp scissors, looks fine up close.
Fit very snuggly as I put a layer of tape around the end edge of the H43. It hadnt budged and has been on for over a month.
It's ghetto, but it works.

Got it from eBay, havent found anything else thats cheap elsewhere that will fit :(
Does anyone know what kinds of filters I can use with this WD-H43? I need a Pola and some grad NDs. Will screw-ons work?

From what I've seen, there's no front thread. I'm awaiting my WD and TL lenses but I'm going to glue a 72-to-77mm step up ring on the fronts (I have 77mm polarizers) and I will use a Cokin holder for my ND grads.
Would this work?

The Canon wide angle adapter does NOT have threads on the front.
If you want to use a clamp-on step up ring, you'll need something with at least 77mm on the adapter side. The inside diameter of the front lens of the adapter is 74.5mm. But there is a two (2) mm lip around the front that makes mounting anything less than 76.5/77mm impossible (I know - I tried a 75mm lens hood and got burned.) (And I just measured it all again to be sure.)

This is what I did...
I got a 43mm UV Filter and bought this ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/43mm-Lens-Hood-for-Video-Camera-Silver_W0QQitemZ120137823797QQihZ002QQcategoryZ643 23QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
It fits like a dream (i.e. the Hood Screws onto the Filter and is stable enough to stick in a bag and to leave it on.. NO camera damage)

We're very happy for you Halo. But the OP was asking about hoods for the Canon wide angle adapter.... :hv20-smilie79:

Rikki,
I'm having a problem finding the product you're using on ebay. I'm assuming that you're using a threadless product - it just clamps on to the WD-H43 and you've secured it with tape?
My H43 is on its way and I want to get as ghetto as you. :)

Hi Spiffy. Here is the one I bought :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120120340944&rd=1&rd=1
I then popped the metal ring off the end and used some of the foam tape you get to block draughts getting through doors in your house (around the edges of the doorframe, also stops the doors banging off the frame).
That made it VERY snug and it hasnt moved at all in the last month or so of having it on, even being in my bag or getting dragged around.
If you then pop a Rode Videomic on there it suddenly becomes a REAL looking camera LOL

It's not expensive, its probably not the best idea but it works and Im happy with it.

Semi-off topic, but not really....
Will this type of 77mm hood work on the TL-H43 as well? If not, anyone know what size would work with the Tele lense?
Thanks,
Ted

I am planning on using the CL75-77 clamp-on step up ring with a 77mm UV filter and screw on 77mm Hoya hood. I ordered the Cavision CL77-75 but it will takes weeks (to a month) before I recieve it so I cant confirm that it will actuall work.
The TL-H43 has an outer diameter of 74.5mm and the 75mm clap im buying WILL work. Im kinda nervous now because I already baught the hood and filters. The inside diameter is 71mm
