I'm a beginner in videography and hope to use windows movie maker v6 to edit.
I've had a jvc hard drive camcorder before but got so fed up with it as the video files where recorded in an annoying .MOD format.
Can anyone tell me what format the HG10 records in? I'm thinking mpeg-4 but can't find confirmation anywhere.
I don't really want to buy fancy editing software so would whatever the format is be supported by WMM?

Cheers
Scott.

The format is AVCHD and NO, it won't be supported in WMM. You'll need to render to an intermediate codec that WMM can suport...................

I have been researching this subject as well. The Canon HG-10 is definately AVCHD. I own Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 and I use it with a Sony PC5 DV cam. Adobe does not support AVCHD as well.

I have found VoltaicHD (http://www.shedworx.com) that transcodes AVCDH to a format wich can be read by WMM and Adobe. You just have to check if WWM v6 does support HDV. Shedworx has a demo to try (lisence is only $30) and some sample files, inlcuding one from the HG-10.

thanks racer-x and eelco. WMM v6 doesn't support HDV. I've been reading around and not many editors support AVCHD at all. I'm being to think buying a hv20 and splurging on a recent adobe or vegas might be easier.

A recent Vegas supports AVCHD as well.
