Does anyone know what happens when I shoot in 24p and capture in Pinnacle? (I believe that it does not yet support 24p or B-Ray for that matter)

All I am trying to do is shoot 24p - Edit and soon BURN on B-Ray to watch on a 24p plasma.

Anyone out there that uses Studio 11 with HD successfully?

The HV20 uses 3:2 pulldown, so the footage is actually at 29.997 fps. That being so, then Pinnacle 11 should cope (as long as it can edit HD video).

Chaps, I know the P11 does NOT yet support 24p, so what happens to the footage shot in 24p that is edited in Pinnacle
&
Does Pinnacle support those .m2 files?

YES, I know Vegas does it BUT I would HATE to switch - BUT I might have to.

Pinnacle 11.1 will output to AVCHD, HD DVD, DVD, SVCD and VCD (provided you have an HD burner) It will also make a file in MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and Sony PSP compatible.
It will capture in a range of HD formats both p and i and edit in HD.
Can I suggest that you aim your question to the Pinnacle website FAQs

I have and they have said its NOT supported, so due to the vast knowledge of many of the posters here with the same cam as me, I just though someone would know what happens when I push 24p in and edit.

I have had a live chat with Pinnacle and the reply was that Studio 11.1 would take 25p with the setting at PAL. Now this suggests that the HDV would be reduced to DV at the capture stage.
Why not try it at NTSC Progressive and see what happens?

Will do.... Or its Vegas but for that I need advice :) - Thats the problem with cutting edge stuff - Hassles and pain until things catch up.... And I think it will be a while as Joe Public still things DV and a widescreen TV is Mecca.

Why would you HATE to switch? I was a Pinnacle fanboy since version 8, yes I dealt w/ all the lockups, corrupted projects, penny you to death with new features, etc, all the way up to Pinnacle 10.6, then 10.7 crashed and wouldn't load. Instead of uninstalling it and reinstalling it and trying again I download Vegas trial, played with it for a few weeks and made the switch about 3 months ago, I haven't been happier and I haven't looked back either.

What about the DVD menu's and stuff...
What do you lose if anything

PS I have never really had problems with Pinnacle.

I too have had a good experience with Pinnacle. Looking at this forum and the Pinnacle users forum, I have gained the impression that Studio is sensitive to the hardware it is expected to work with, graphics cards seem to cause problems with other computers.
If as you say you are a Studio user, I suggest that you contact Pinnacle through their "Live Chat" or FAQ. It is possible that there is an answer to satisfy you OR MORE IMPORTANT!!! You will get them to put out a patch to upgrade Studio to operate effectively with 24p (especially if other users and camcorders want editing in 24p)
I started with Studio 10.5 and am on Studio 11.1, I like the program. I accept that there are many editing programs out there and all have their good points but I will stick with what I like and try to make it better.
Have a look at forums.pinnaclesys.com to see if there are any threads there.

Vegas comes with a separate program for authoring DVDs/Menus. I've only done a handful of DVD's since the switch. It's not quite as intuitive/easy as Pinnacle but it is much more powerful, aka you get more options. One thing I've learned using Vegas is you have to sort of change your mindset of editing/authoring video's. Get away from one big massive project to small separate projects done using multiple project files in VEGAS then bring it all together in the DVD Creator. So far I don't feel that I've lost ANYTHING, in fact I've gained, more control, stability and speed. VEGAS just seems 'faster' than Pinnacle ever did, I don't get interface blocks when the software pauses. I don't think it's a hardware issue. I ran pinnacle on 3 different computers. 1 P4 laptop, 1 P4 desktop and my current Core2Duo Desktop. None of the hardware was reused. If you are happy with Pinnacle, great! I defended them for years too.

I append my Live Chat with Pinnacle:-
Hi, my name is Anthony. How may I help you?
Michael: Hi Anthony Im Mike I wish to edit video captured in CINE mode I.e.25p or 24p. Will Studio 11.1 cope with the slower frame speed?
Anthony: What format is it?
Michael: HV
Michael: HDV CINE on a Canon HV-20
Michael: To clarify more High Def at 25 fps frame rate
Anthony: Yes.
Anthony: But you should set the TV format as PAL.
Michael: Is that Yes Studio 11.1 will handle a different frame rate HDTV?
Anthony: yes.
Anthony: But you should set the project as PAL first.
Michael: That is PAL instead of 1920x1080/50p
Anthony: Yes
Michael: OK Will try it. Thanks Goodbye
Hope this is of interest and clarifies Pinnacle's view on editing footage in Cine mode.

Get Sony Vegas Platinum 8. You can download a full functioning trial from the Vegas website.
I used Pinnacle for years without issues on XP but recently I switched to Vista (Has to happen sometime.......) and Pinnacle 11 just had too many problems (Even on a clean system).

So I noticed the new Platinum 8 and allthough it has a steeper learning curve than Pinnacle 11 it is more stable, faster and better. It has all the features of Studio 11 and a bit more.

Just wanted to make the point that I'm using Pinnacle 11.1 and I'm not having any issues as such.

Works fine with HD footage.
