I'm new to the world of high definition and camcorders, so I'm after a bit of advice. I have just bought an HV20.

If I record in HD and edit the HD footage on my laptop, what will the quality be if I burn to a normal DVD for playback through a standard DVD machine connected to a HD tv?

That may sound like a silly question but I'm trying to figure out how this all works for HD playback.

DVD-video does not support HD, so you will only see SD on your TV. Very good SD, but no high definition.

So if I want to play back the footage, at this stage, I can only do it by playing it from the camcorder?

You can also play it back using your PC connected to HDTV. Or encode the video to DIVX video with the HD profile and playback with those DIVX HD compatible DVD playber.

Oh right, got it. So it sounds like my best option at the moment is getting a large hard disc and connect my PC up to the HD TV.

Your graphics card has to support HDMI or component output to do so.
There are also standalones that support HDV-Playback. A PS3 is also a choice.

Actually any graphic card will do. I hook up my media PC to HDTV using the onboard d-Sub connection.
