In photo mode, there are Evaluative, centre-weighted, and spot metering. Are these options also available in video mode ??
Are these metering options not important as far as video taking is concerning ??
thanks

Page 54-55 of the US manual indicates metering options are only available in still camera mode (whenever you see the word "camera" and an icon that looks like flash memory card, that function pertains to still camera use only.)
Having some experience with still camera photography, I agree it might be useful to have alternative metering options on a video camera too. The BLC (backlight compensation or "correction" as Canon calls it) button on the side of the camera does create more of a spot metering result, esp. for back lit subjects. I recently shot a bunch of footage of my niece in a large community wading pool with a white bottom. The camera wanted to stop down on the exposure because of the sun, water and white bottom of the shallow pool. But then my niece was underexposed. So the BLC came in very handy to raise the exposure on her, even though it wasn't a classic back-lighting situation.

Thanks 24Peter.
I hope Canon should also include the still camera metering modes into the video cam in future models.

I should say my niece is one year old and was with her mom (didn't want people to get the impression my niece is 30 and hanging out in the kiddie pool!)
